Sharon Swanke

I am delighted to be back on the staff here at St. Mary’s. Some of our students and parents recall when I worked here two days per week as the School Librarian in 2005-2006. Since then I have earned my Master’s degree in Library and Information Science from UIUC and now am happy to be here teaching Technology for K-3 along with my librarian duties.

I was brought up in Southern California where I attended St. Cyril of Jerusalem School in Encino (K-6) and then St. Mary’s in Escondido (7-8). My secondary education was at San Pasqual High School in Escondido and then I earned my B.S. in Foods and Nutrition from San Diego State University. Just after graduation from SDSU I met my husband, John, and we married in 1986. We moved to the Bloomington/Normal area in 2002 and are members of St. Patrick’s of Merna Parish. John and I have three wonderful children, Mike, Erin and Megan Marie.

Students in my technology classes are learning basic keyboarding skills and drawing with KidPix software. During library time I work to expose students to all types of literature, with special emphasis on important and influential authors. The 8 th grade curriculum in the library is centered on preparation for high school and the college admissions process.
